February 8 - February 12

Students from Mrs. Honn's class have been busy researching and creating their cultural collages using PicMonkey, an online photo editor.  Each student created a collage on a Latin American country. After they created their collage they uploaded it into a Google Slide presentation for their class.  The presentation will be used for a lesson next week where they will be learning more about these Latin American countries.

Here is a look at some of the cultural collages created.

Mrs. Somer's students are continuing to read Alabama Moon and share their thoughts about the story with our class buddies. The students are finding this book extremely interesting and predicting what they think will happen next.

Another exciting venture in the library is the use of a teleprompter for Mustang TV.  We have tried several throughout the years, but never found anything that really worked for us, but finally we have found an app that we are having success with.  Kudos to the students who are trying it out, it definitely takes time to get used to.

February 1 - February 5

This week has been filled with lots of fun Battle of the Books activities.  Monday during homeroom the top two teacher teams battled for the top spot in front of the students who are part of Battle of the Books.  This was the closest finish we have ever had with a teacher team.  The final score was 95-90, the difference of knowing one author.  Wow!  How incredible is it that we had 12 teachers from Park View who took the time to read the same books as their students, discuss the books they read with them and became part of the competition!  The top teacher team will compete against the top student team next week for what is sure to be exciting.  A tremendous thank you to the following teachers for sharing their love of reading with the students

Friday the students will participate throughout the day in battles and we'll have a winning team by the end of the day!

Mrs. Nowak's class was also in this week using EdPuzzle to view and responding to information on rocks.  Then they created their own rock diagram.

Lastly, Mrs. Somer's Read 180 class is beginning a collaborative novel.  They will be reading Alabama Moon as a class along with another class of students from New Glarus. Students will read the book and respond to questions with small groups of students from both school using Google Classroom.

Digital Citizenship & Digital Leadership

Mrs. Jones and I worked together on a Digital Citizenship and Digital Leadership lesson over the past week.  During this lesson the students did some role playing to find out how one's digital footprint can impact them in their lives.  The students then created presentation using Thinglink in which they explored a topic further.  Below are some examples of what the students create, they also presented their information to their classmates.  I was impressed with the amount of knowledge our students have and all the steps they doing to make sure that they are not only good digital citizens, but also good digital leaders.

January 18 - January 22

This has been a busy week as the end of the end of a grading is arriving.  Mrs. Serkowski and I worked on a internet etiquette and email lesson.  There was discussion and on what internet etiquette encompasses as well as dissecting the parts of an e-mail.  Students worked on sending e-mails with attachments and responding appropriately to e-mails.

Mrs. Murphy's Spanish class used the Web tool Poster my Wall to create an online scrapbook in which they needed to insert images about things that they like or do not like.  Then they needed to come up with sentences in Spanish they explained the image.

Mr. Stillman brought his students in on Wednesday when we had shortened classes due to the early dismissal day.  Students were able to check out books and take a look at some of the new titles in the library.

Mrs. Jones' students are finishing up their Thinglink project on a variety of digital citizenship and digital leadership topics.  Presentations will begin on Friday and finish up on Monday.

January 11 - Januray 15

This week the library was busy with students working on their STAR testing for math and language arts.  Even though the library was busy with testing students were doing research with a variety of books and e-book in their classrooms.  I was able to go into Mrs. Jones' Communications class to begin a discussion on Digital Citizenship, discussing how students can protect their online identity.  The class will be finishing up a project involving digital citizenship next week.

Mrs. Murphy's visited and worked on their Mi Vida Loca project as well as Kahoot to review verbs.

Chromebook carts arrived for the 7th grade and World Language teachers.  Staff members are excited to have access to technology on a regular basis.  It was a little overwhelming to see 15 carts arrive in the library all at one time, but they are almost all ready to go to their new homes!

January 4 - January 8

To kick off the new year Battle of the Books students received their t-shirts as the upcoming battle day will arrive soon.  Students did a lot of reading over the break to make sure that they're ready.

As far as library activities go this week, we've been busy.  Mrs. Arenz brought in her careers class to learn how to use Noodle Tools for their citations as well as check out a book that relates to a career that they are doing their project on.

Mrs. Grau was in the library with her students finishing up their research and presentation on their state that was started prior to winter break. It's been great seeing all of the progress they made on their presentation.

Mr. Hopper's class came in to work on researching information for their Revolutionary War project and to get a quick refresher in making citations with Noodle Tools.  Students spent time finding books and resources to help them gather information

Mrs. Honn's class visited on Friday to complete their presentations on the different Native American tribes of Wisconsin.  After their slideshows were complete the students used audio recorders to explain their topic in more detail and we then inserted their audio in the presentation.

December 14 - December 18

Mrs. Grau's social studies class have been in the library this week doing research using our database CultureGrams to gather information and images about a specific state.  Students will then take the information they gather and create a presentation for their fellow classmates using either Google Slides or Powerpoint.  Student were instructed in how to use Noodle Tools for their citations as they work on their project.

Ms. Poz's class finished up the week having her students view presentations that students made on Native American tribes and completing an acrostic with information gathered from the presentations.

The Winter Around the World project was compiled and completed.  Mr. Weiler's art classes completed paintings to include in this collaborative book that showcases work not only from classes in the United States, but from the China, Australia, United Kingdom, and Dubai.  Art work by our PVMS students starts on page 99, but check out the work by all the student, it's pretty incredible.
